Piccadilly Circus Reassurance Initiative

Piccadilly Circus

On 16th December 2009, British Transport Police conducted a high-visibility reassurance initiative in the Piccadilly Circus area.

This included:

  • High-visibility patrols of Coventry Street, Regent Street, Piccadilly, Jermyn Street and Shaftesbury Avenue by the local area Safer Neighbourhood Team PCs and PCSOs, paying particular attention to a number of pre-identified hotspots.
  • High-visibility patrols by Heart of London City Guardians around Piccadilly Circus, again concentrating on a number of pre-determined crime hotspots.
  • High-visibility police patrols of Piccadilly Circus Tube Station by Transport Police, at both booking hall and platform level.
  • Plain-clothes police officers patrolling buses in and around Piccadilly Circus.
  • A ‘meet the team’ and public safety stand inside Piccadilly Circus Station with PCSOs from both Transport and Metropolitan Police available to discuss any problems the public may be encountering with public transport and obtain crime prevention advice.

There was a greater police presence in the area than usual, with the aim that it helped reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in and around the tube stations.
