We launched the Heart of London Carbon Reduction Challenge, in partnership with Westminster Carbon Alliance, in February 2009 to support our businesses in their bid to reduce carbon emissions and improve efficiency.
The project is a direct response to the issue of climate change and will help businesses in the Heart of London achieve significant energy savings and reduce operating costs during this financially uncertain period.
67 representatives from businesses attended the launch at Odeon West End Cinema and those businesses that signed up to the Carbon Reduction Challenge are receiving support and technical advice to significantly reduce their CO2 emissions. In some cases funds have been secured through the Westminster Carbon Alliance to undertake pilot projects.
“We made a commitment to reduce our carbon emissions; energy surveys have been completed and best practice has been developed and implemented to deliver phase one of our Energy Conservation Project. This has resulted in a circa 20% reduction in power consumption across all of our high usage venues, which in turn has reduced our carbon footprint, operating costs and saved us some cash. We believe that establishing the Carbon Alliance will enable us to network with businesses from the same sector, share best practice and identify ‘what a good job looks like.”
