The Mayor’s flagship cycling scheme Barclays Cycle Hire has launched. This is a public bicycle sharing scheme useful for short journeys in and around central London. You can pick up a bicycle, use it as you wish, then drop it off at a nearby docking station, ready for the next user. There are around 6,000 hire bicycles at around 400 locations across central London.
Your closest Cycle Hire docking station is in Panton Street adjacent to Busaba (Clareville House) and opposite the Odeon Panton Street cinema.
Mayor Boris Johnson considers the scheme to be one of his top transport priorities: "This will provide a genuinely sustainable alternative to the car and encourage more Londoners to cycle".
To help people get the most out of cycling in London and Barclays Cycle Hire, Transport for London have produced a short video which highlights TfL’s common sense ‘Code of Conduct’ that all Barclays Cycle Hire users are expected to adhere to for a safe and enjoyable experience.
